Good Evening!
We had a great first full week in grade 2. Our math program is in full swing and home links for homework will start soon.
We also started our spelling program. Spelling will be a combination of our spelling book and word work. We will NOT have spelling tests this year. I would like to take the time to work on spelling patterns, high frequency words, and new vocabulary.
This week I will introduce them to our writing folders and how they are used. We will do lots of writing in all subject areas, but also add free write. Second graders will also write personal narratives, research, poetry, persuasive writing, and more.
Reading workshop has gone well this week. We are working on building stamina so that I am able to meet with students in small groups. Our reading block will always include a mini lesson and guided reading. I also love to do books with projects to go with them. This helps to build new vocabulary and work on story elements.
