Third Grade News

Happy Weekend!

We have had a great week! Third graders have settled in nicely to our routine. I am very proud of them!

This week we have done lots of reading, writing, and word work. Thank you so much for helping them with their reading homework. It has certainly helped with the flow of our guided reading! Third graders are also working on finishing up stories about magic glasses. We listened to the story, Rosie’s Glasses, and then wrote stories of our own.

We are part way through our first science unit. We are doing a unit called Animals Through Time. This year I am using Mystery Science and they kids love it. It is very hands on, which makes fun!

On Friday we took our learning outside. It was a beautiful day! It was fun to read and write outside in the fresh air.

You may hear the name Emily Byrnes or Miss Byrnes. Emily is from UMO and will be with us on Tuesday until December.

Have a great weekend!

 Hello,

We have had a great week in third grade. I must say your children are rock stars for surviving this heat! They did not complain once!

This week we added silent reading and free write. I think I have some pretty creative writers. In the next week I will be starting guided reading groups. I love that they are already asking to read!

We started math this week and they had their first home link. Thank you for helping them with their homework! It really is helpful for them to have a little extra practice and I love that you can see what we are doing in class.

Next week we will add spelling and handwriting. They are excited to learn cursive.

HOMEWORK: I will give homework this year in math and reading. Please check your child’s folder for their assignments. It will NOT be every night!

Have a wonderful weekend! I am crossing my fingers for some cool weather!

We read the book, Sticks and then created with popsicle sticks. It is a cute book about finding your place in the world. It is one of my favorite read alouds.

This may have been the highlight of a VERY hot and humid week!
