Happy Weekend!

It seems like our weeks are flying! I am not sure how we are half way through November.

We finished our social studies simulation on Thursday. This is one of my favorite units and the kids loved it. It is such a fun way to learn about our history and how history can change as we know more information. It is a great way to learn to work in a group and listen to all ideas. I must say they did an awesome job. It is fun to watch them work through different thoughts and ideas.

We started our third math unit on Tuesday. We have started with fractions, so anytime you can work that into your conversations at home would be great. Fractions are a hard concept for third grade. I would also encourage you to practice addition and subtraction facts at home. We have started doing mad minutes before our math lessons.

I am changing our reading groups from now until Christmas break. When we come back after bread we will continue independent reading, but add partner reading and journaling. We have also started The Chocolate Touch. We are reading together as a class while learning new vocabulary and answering more

finishing some of the books we are have started and also we will be starting a personal narrative! I am excited to see what they will write about!

On Monday and Tuesday we will be doing some community service with grades 2 and 4. The children will be making center pieces and an ornament for each resident at the Veazie Senior Center. We will deliver them on Tuesday afternoon. We will also be walking to the Davis Woods to clean up the path. Please make sure your kids come prepared to walk outside!

I want to thank you for sending in pies and juice for our little feast!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a relaxing break!

 Third Grade

Balloons Over Broadway Project

with Mrs. Shannon

Here's the link for the third grade Balloons Over Broadway project. First we read the book Balloons Over Broadway, the true story of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Next, they created blue prints of their design idea and labeled the materials they would need. (I attached a few photos of that, too!). Finally, they began building their balloon using recycled materials and we used Canva to snap a photo using the background remover tool.
