I can NOT believe it is February! We had a great week last week. Second graders would like to share their Landform Projects! They did a great job!
January 15, 2021
WOW, what a busy week! This week flew by and second graders worked very hard.
ELA
Second graders have done lots of reading this week. Thank you so much for reading with them at home...it makes a big difference. We are working on reading comprehension and voice as we read.
We had fun with opinion/persuasive writing on Thursday and Friday. It always helps when it involves cookies. We described our favorite cookie and then had to think of reasons that supported the opinion. We also tasted 2 cookies and we are now working on persuasion.
We had fun doing a compare and contrast with, "Snowmen at Night" and "Snowmen Through the Year". After we read it was fun to create our own scene about snowmen. Second graders did a great job writing a story about their picture. They are working very hard to write stories with strong beginnings, middles, and endings.
Math
Can I just say that your children are math rockstars?! We have an eighty minute math block and they work VERY hard! We have been working on money and adding double digits. On Friday we did some hot chocolate math and enjoyed some yummy hot chocolate. I love how our math program turns them into "math thinkers'. They amaze me daily!
Science
This week we learned about landforms and erosion. Second graders did some cool experiments to help them see what erosion and landslides can do to our land. They became engineers and tried to create a way to stop a landslide.
Next, we will create a landform and do our first research!
January 10th
We had a great first week of January! It did not take your children long to get right back into our routine. I could not be prouder of them! I love their enthusiasm and the way they laugh. They sure make my job easy!
These are some highlights from our week:
Mrs. Richards shared her knowledge of moose and their antlers with us on Tuesday. We all learned a lot and it was so exciting to have a quest share in our classroom. Mrs. Richard sure knows a lot about moose. Second graders also had fun guessing their weight...one set weighed 13 lbs. and one weighed 14 lbs.
