Third Grade Landforms...

Third graders had fun with landforms this week. We worked with partners to make posters. Each group chose a landform, looked up facts, and made a poster. It was great to see them engaged in learning. I was very proud of how hard the work and what an awesome job they did working together.

Third graders also did a persuasive writing this week. They designed a haunted house and then put it up for sale! We had some pretty creative ads. This was our first attempt at persuasive writing and doing a rough draft and a final copy. They worked hard and did an great job! If you need a haunted house we have some for sale!

Have a wonderful weekend! Remember next week is Red Ribbon Week!

Landforms, Rocks, and Minerals, OH MY...

Well, third graders were pretty happy when they came to school on Tuesday and saw this...

Our rocks and minerals have arrived!
It was great to see their excitement.
I have a feeling we will add many new rocks to our collection.

Yes, we started our unit on landforms, rocks, and minerals. Camden kicked off our unit with a non-fiction book he wrote with his grandmother. Thank you Camden! I am looking forward to sharing some of the great activities I have planned for them.

This week we wrote Halloween stories. The class came up with words that would tell us how they would feel, what they would see, or hear in a haunted house. Each child completed a house that showed the problem, solution, characters, setting, and plot in their story. I was very impressed with the stories they wrote! It was great to see the enthusiasm during this writing block! Here is a quick look at some of our work:

As you can see we have some great authors and illustrators! Stop by and check out the stories!

I wanted to say THANK YOU for all the wonderful books that were donated to our classroom.  They will be put to great use! It was also great to see you all at parent conferences.

Next week I will start posting homework and important information on our blog. Please check in daily to see what is going on in third grade.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Third Graders are AWESOME!

We have had a great week! The kids had a great time with the map and communities unit. We created
a 3-D map of Veazie. The children included all their houses and businesses in our town. It was great to see them put together all they learned about maps!
And it begins...

We are working hard and working together!

Keegan, Nick, and Thomas making the legend.

Kris is making the Town Office, Police Station, and Fire Station.

In math this week we used our Student Reference books to look up information about animals. We then took the information and put them into number stories. They loved learning new facts...some were pretty amazing! I think we have some math wizards!

Sarah, Camden, and Kris finding fun facts!

Rachel, Halle, Adam, and Thomas

From Will, in the green, to Duncan waving his hand is as long as a python! We decided we DO NOT want to run into one!

In reading we are learning to respond to questions. We are working on comprehension, inferring, and character traits! I love reading with third graders! It is so fun to hear them laugh or get excited about a fact they learned!
Next week will start Landforms and Rock and Minerals.

Have a nice long weekend!

A Week in Third Grade

We have had a very busy week. Our days are filled with reading, writing, math, social studies, and some great specials! Third grade finished the NWEA testing this week. I am so proud of how seriously they took them and how hard they worked. CONGRATULATIONS!

Our Week in Review

Third grade has been writing some creative stories. On Thursday, we had a mini-lesson on adjectives. On Friday, we taught kindergarten what we knew and helped them write and illustrate books! Third graders are awesome teachers!
Thank you Mr. Cyr for making learning about adjectives lots of fun!
We have fun putting adjectives on Duncan!

We also had fun learning about different communities. Here are some of our cool map unit projects:

We had fun making suburban, rural, and urban posters!

Third grade made themselves on the map and looked up facts about
their state, town, country, continent, and planet!

We ended our week baking brownies because we finished NWEA Testing :)

We are awesome bakers...yum!
