Third Grade Update

I feel like it has been awhile since I have updated...third grade has been VERY busy! I can NOT believe it is March. They say time flies when you are having fun and I have to say I am having a blast in third grade!

In math we are in full swing with multiplication facts! PLEASE have your child practice facts at home. It is so helpful to them to be fluent in multiplication facts. Using flashcard for 10 minutes a night will make all the difference for them and their math skills. If you need index cards to make them please let me know and I will be happy to send some home! We will be starting a chart and reward system for third graders that are fast with facts!

Third grade finished their unit on European Explorers. They finished the unit by writing an informational letter and their own explorer!

We had an awesome community reader come visit on Monday. Thank you so much to Helen Cheney! Third grade loved the story, the stars, and the hat! Mrs. Cheney is a natural...I think we will be seeing more of her in the future!

On Monday we also started a science unit on Social and Group Behavior. Third graders had fun with some interesting activities to help them understand how animals live in herds and hunt for food. They also wrote their first CER...Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning. This is a part of our new science program that helps students think more in depth about science reasoning.

These pictures show students in their herds and their pack leader trying to lead them to a water source.

These pictures show the children in herds hunting for food. The children discover it is more beneficial to stay in a pack and share food.

We ended our week with a 3, 4, 5 project to honor Dr. Seuss. We the book "Oh the Places You'll Go" and followed it up with a group project. The students were put into groups and had to pick a country, make a hot air balloon, themselves(mini), the flag, and look up facts about their country. It is so fun to see them work together! We have an awesome group of children!

As you can see we had a great week!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Holly
