December 8th

I hope you all had a great weekend! This time of year is so busy, but so much fun! I love watching all the kids and their excitement.

It was great to see so many of you at the Holiday Concert. The kids did an awesome job!

As you know we finished Unit 3 in math and started Unit 4 last week. We are also starting to learn multiplication facts. The kids are making flash cards during class.  Students will be bringing their cards home to practice. It would be great if they could  practice 5 to 10 minutes at night.

Please don't forget about reading logs! They earn 3 gotchas for turning it in and become stronger readers! They may also record their reading homework.

We did some persuasive writing this week! They had to become an elf and convince someone to hire them. This was our first  writing with a graphic organizer, rough copy, editing, and final copy.  I was VERY impressed with how hard they worked. It was a difficult assignment and they showed great perseverance.

Our photos of the week:

In math we created an Array City. The kids loved it and it was a great way to practice arrays, multiplication, and turn around facts.
Third grade is doing an author study on Patricia Polacco. We read The Giving Quilt  and then created a class quilt. The children had to draw a picture showing a tradition and then they wrote about it.

We love Thursdays! Third graders helped kindergarten looked up reindeer facts and complete a reindeer project! I am always amazed at how helpful and kind they are to their buddies

On Friday, we earned a special activity. Third grade worked hard to turn all the letters of the word magnificent over! They truly are MAGNIFICENT! We just finished reading the first book in the Nanny Piggins series and read Thunder Cake by Patricia Polacco. We were very luck to find out both books involved CHOCOLATE! We made a chocolate cake with some added chocolate(chocolate chips, m &m's, and reeses)...Nanny Piggins would have been proud!

The intermediate wing will start practicing for our musical this week. We are excited to perform Alice in Wonderland. Hopefully, we will be ready at the end of January. Keep your eyes open for more information.

You have some pretty thankful and appreciative kids! You should be proud. I know they make my day!
