The week before Christmas and all through third grade...

Wow, what a busy week! You can feel the excitement in the air. The week before the holidays is fun, crazy, loud...but it is so great to watch kids and their excitement! You have some awesome kids that I am happy to spend my day with!

This week we finished our third unit in math. Congratulations on a job well done to my third graders! We will start Unit 4 when we return from vacation.

Reading and writing are the best times of day. I have a room filled with bookworms! We continue to read in groups. I love to meet with them and listen to their conversations about their books. I have a series in my room called, "The 39 Clues." The kids are waiting in line to read them!
In writing we wrote, "Haiku", poems about a melting snowman. If you are in the building stop by and check out our melting snowmen and poems to match...they are AWESOME! Third grade also did some free writing. If you could see the enthusiasm it would put a smile on your face! They are pretty creative!

On, Monday we will finish our science unit on Objects and Motion. This unit has been a blast!

We have also been working on some "secret" crafts.

On Tuesday, we are going to have an Intermediate Social. Please have your child bring in a board game to share. If you would like to send in a snack that would be great.  We do understand this is a busy time of year so we are keeping things low key!

I wanted to share some photos of 3, 4, and 5 doing a holiday project. Each child had to choose 6 names and give the gift of a compliment. On Tuesday, each child will open 6 compliment gifts. It was so nice to watch them being so thoughtful of their peers.

Again, I am so blessed to be working with such wonderful families! I am looking forward to 2106 and all the learning we will do in third grade! Have a wonderful vacation!

Happy Weekend!

Third graders have been busy. We have been writing poetry, writing books, and loving science!

Here are some of our highlights:

On Tuesday, we helped kindergarten with a grinch project.

Nick and Duncan read, "The Grinch."

The girls putting their Grinch together!

Halle helping with adjectives, cutting, and gluing!
Rachel listening to reading.

In science we made launchers. They were given the guidelines, materials, and then set off to make their own design.
It was nice to see how hard they worked and their thought process. Check out our video on the Veazie School facebook page.
In reading this week we started, The Grinch, readers theater. We also continue to read books by Kate DiCamillo. I think our room is full of bookworms!
In writing we have been writing poetry. They are doing an awesome job! They are also starting to finish up some books. It is so fun to listen to them share.
In math we are coming to the end of Unit 3. It looks like our test will be on Wednesday!

It was great to see you all at Mr. Henry's Holiday Concert. I was very impressed with the third graders!  Congratulations!

Have a great weekend!
Holly

Wow, time is flying by so fast! Last week was very busy and VERY fun!
We started our unit on Objects and Motion.  Here are some highlights:

We played, "tug of war," while learning about balanced and unbalanced forces. I hope you checked out our video on the Veazie School Facebook page!

Third grade also did some great stations to teach us about force and motion. They had to record all their data on graphs.
Ramp it up!

Pendulum
Lost Marbles

Mass Matters

Changing Forces
Third graders played math games and word games on Friday. I was very impressed with how well they worked  together!

We ended our week by listening to "Jolly Postman" books written by 5th grade!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
