November 17

Good Morning,
I hope you have had a nice weekend! Things in third grade have been very busy. The days and weeks are flying by so quickly!

The kids are really enjoying our Plymouth Colony simulation. They might be a bit more competitive then the Pilgrims, but their enthusiasm is wonderful! They make my job pretty fun!

Here are some pictures of our simulation:

Third graders split into colonies. The space that is marked off helps them to see how small the space was that the Pilgrims had on the Mayflower.

This was a favorite activity. They had to build houses in certain amount of time. They earned houses for their colony for every house completed within the guidelines. The red strips of paper are their tools. They had to be out so that the Native Americans could try to steal them. If any tools are lost they lose a colonist.

We will finish our simulation on Monday.

Third grade and Kindergarten have become reading buddies! They met on Thursday. The kids completed a Venn Diagram so they could see that even though their age is different they may like some of the same things! I was so proud of third grade. They took on a leadership role and did an AWESOME job! We are looking forward to lots of fun with kindergarten.

This week we are going to do the first reading of the 3-5 musical. We are pretty excited and I think the kids will be as well.
On Tuesday, the kids are going to do a breakout box with Ms. Spinney...I think they will love it!

There will be NO homework this week!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Third grade has been busy...we survived school with no power, we had a trip to Cole's Transportation museum, we set sail for the New World, and had very nice Veteran's Day celebration!

I hoped you were able to see our trip to Cole's Museum on our Veazie Facebook page. We had a great experience and I could not have been prouder of your children. First, we participated in the Junior Curator Program. The students looked at old artifacts and had to read about them and decide how they were used. We then had a tour of the museum. Third graders took notes and asked great questions. It was a proud moment when our guide said they were the best third graders he has had visit the museum. You should be very proud of your children...I sure am!

We set sail for the New World last week. Third graders are doing a Plymouth Colony Simulation. We are having a blast learning about life as a pilgrim. They are working in teams to answer questions, learn about survival, and learn what life was like so long ago.

On Thursday, we celebrated Veteran's Day. The intermediate wing made posters for each brand of the service. They wrote poems and thank you notes to share. We had several students read a poem and a thank you to the Veterans that visited our school.

We are starting to learn our multiplication facts. In class we are making cards to help us become fast! If you could send in index cards to help us with this that would be great.

Third grade is in need of:
index cards
sticky notes
board games for inside recess(if you have any to share)

Thank you so much for your support. I am enjoying your children and their excitement to learn!

Important Update:

PTO is putting together class baskets to put in the auction. Our class voted to put together a Fun Basket. We will start collecting donation on Monday and give them to Kim Taylor on Friday so she can put our basket together.

A few ideas the kids came up with:
pokemon cards
sport cards/items
games (travel games)
candy
art supplies
small toys(squishy, stuffed animals)
crayons, markers, colored pencils
color books
word search books

I picked up: play-doh and floam

We are trying to make it for either a girl or a boy.
If you have any questions you can contact Kim Taylor!

Anything you can donate would be great!

Thanks so much for your help.
