September 29th

Hearing the kids say it is cold out was actually very nice! I am not a big fan of winter, but I have to say it was nice to feel the fall air!

I wanted to share some pictures from the last few weeks:
Multiplication and division with jelly beans!
We used the pan balance and gram weights to measure and compare.

We made fossils out of clay.

They then put them in sand and gravel to see which one helped or damaged the fossils.

We read the book, Bubble Gum Brain, and decided we should make bubble gum! It was lots of fun...

and VERY yummy!
Our next fossil activities was pressing ocean animals and dinosaurs into clay. We let them dry so we can turn them into necklaces, key chains, or coins.

Measuring and plotting fossils.

Sorting fossils by the place they are found.

Creating a swamp, ocean, land, and desert for their fossils. They finished this project by looking up fossil facts.

Painting our fossils!

After having a spelling test, math test, and a science NWEA it was time for a cool treat!

Sept. 11-15

I hope you all had a great weekend. I wanted to share some things we did last week. We have been pretty busy...I forgot to take more pictures...oops!
We are very excited about our new carpet and our new bench. It is a big hit when we are reading. Like I said in my newsletter we are working on stamina. I love how excited they get to share what they read.

Third graders had fun making fossils out of glue and clay. This week will explore more ways to make fossils and learn where they come from.

It was fun working in partners to make venn diagram people. We read the book Spaghetti in a Hotdog. This book is about the difference in people.  They worked with a partner to see how they were alike and how they were different.

Third Grade is AWESOME!

We have had a great beginning to our third grade year! I have had so much fun getting to know your children! I can tell this is going to be an awesome year of fun and learning!

I wanted to share some highlights from our week:

We had fun learning some new math games!

Our Intermediate Team loves to plan activities together. We made a banner to hang in our wing. Each piece was made by the students. They were put into 3,4,5 groups to get to know each other.

Our theme for the next few weeks will be getting to know our routine, kindness, growth mindset, and getting to know each other! We had fun "sprinkling kindness" around the outside of our building! We hope our visitors smile as they come into our school!

Have a wonderful weekend!
