October 27th

It was so nice to meet with all of you during conferences! It is fun to share the wonderful things your kids are doing.

I am still looking for a few chaperones to join us on November 1st for our trip. We will leave the school at 8:15 a.m. and will arrive back at 11:15 a.m. Please let me know if you can join us!

We had a great week in third grade. We took our second math test and they did an AWESOME job! Third graders joined fourth and fifth and wrote an incredible wall story. Science was a big hit...we saved a city from flood waters(or we tried). Reading has been one of our favorite times of day and it makes me so happy! We are reading in groups and on our own.

Third grade used fractions circles this week.

We finished our science unit with an engineering activity. Third graders were given a challenge to build a structure that would keep water from flooding a city. They had a list of materials: cardboard, clay, soil, sand, tape, foil, sponges, and paint trays. When they completed their structure it had to hold 500ml of water for 1 minute.

Their plans...

And the building begins...

Each group did a great job working together! It was fun to watch all of their ideas come together. They cheered each other on and it was a great team building activity!

I will post homework on our blog each week. If you look to the right and scroll down you should find it.

Again, thank you so much for meeting with me last week. It is so nice to work with such supportive families!

I hope you had a great weekend!

Just a quick note:

Third grade is in need of sticky notes!
If you have some you would like to send our way we would greatly appreciate it!
Here are some highlights from the last 2 weeks!
Third graders have been very busy!

Brayleigh did an awesome job reading to the class! She is a pro!

We always love to learn new math games. This one is addition and rolling to 1000!

Third graders learned to make multiplication arrays. It was lots of fun making them with candy corn...eating is always the best!

We have been learning about the impacts of natural hazards. Last week we did a STEM activity where they had to design a house that would withstand a hurricane(fan). It was so fun to watch them work together to come up with solutions.

These boys came up with a design that did not move. They were quite proud!

This is what happens when you flip all the letters to the word EXQUISITE on our chart!

Cool Creations

Lego Robotics...everywhere!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I am looking forward to meeting with you at conferences.

October 10, 2017

I hope you have enjoyed your long weekend! I have to say I do enjoy a rainy day!

Last week flew by so fast I forgot to take pictures! We are working on building our stamina during reading. This week we will start guided reading. We have done mini lessons to help with our comprehension.

We finished our fossil unit and will start a new unit tomorrow. Our next unit is, The Impacts of Natural Hazards. This is always a fun unit with some pretty cool activities. On Friday, we will include a stem activity on hurricanes. We also make weather related snacks...can you guess what they might be?

Third graders started a narrative writing last week. It was a bit hard so we are going to work on powerful sentences this week. The kids designed some pretty awesome haunted houses and this week we will add some "haunting sentences."

We will be doing spelling this week, but will not have a spelling test. I am going to take this week to work in their spelling books. They will also use their words for sentence practice. They will have some homework to turn in on Friday.

I promise to get my camera out this week!
